Great for the price
I was originally looking for a very high quality with some weight to the pieces, but decided since it was to expose my kids to the game a much cheaper set would suffice. This fits the bill! Couldn’t ask for more, for what I paid. Kids don’t know the difference b/t the qualities yet either, so nothing lost there. With that being said my expectations were not high, which justifys my 5 star. Flaws: pieces are light, some of the bottoms are not level making them easy to fall over with one little tap of the board. Everything else on point.

Should cost way more
My daughter is 10 and has recently joined the chess club at school. So we went and ordered a chess board for her and I to play so she can practice. I bought this one because it seemed way better than the basic plastic one. When it came in and we opened it, I was amazed at the quality. The all wooden board along with the wooden pieces really drove it home. Each piece has a designated slot holder and comes with two extra queens in each color. Fine craftsmanship. I highly recommend this set. Should be at least $20-$30 more.

Need a great value and good quality chess set?
The Good:-Board folds out flat-Pieces have nice design for price-Good beginner set-Pieces can be stored in chess set-Great valueThe Bad:-NoneThe Bottom Line:I’m trying to teach our 6 year old chess and wanted to get a decent quality set for a starter set. A lot of the beginner sets I’ve seen the pieces are too small. This is a good balance of cost and size of pieces. The board is decent quality and folds out flat. Overall this is a good quality chess board for the price.

Made of wood!!
Although we passed the very peak of it, we are definitely in the age of plastic. But this product, is made of wood!!Well, the chessboard is assembled in post-modern technology, like putting wood slices into checkerboard shape with aggressive amount of bonds, so it might not be correct that it’s not a plastic product, but who cares it shows wood shapes on the surface.It feels me comfortable having chess gameplay sets wooden-made other than plastic-made, because its really is vintage game. so I love this product.

Made My Grandson Happy
I had this delivered directly to my grandson. He and his friend haven’t stopped playing chess since he got it. Well, not exactly true. But, he loves the set. He also mentioned the way the board/box holds the pieces so he can carry the set with him if he wants to take it with him.

Good chess set
This is a classic foldable wooden chess set where the pieces are stored inside the case made out of the chess board. It has the bonus of having felt and elastic loops to protect and hold the pieces in place. It further has extra queens, which I have never seen before in a chess set. The board and pieces are well designed and manufactured. There are more exotic (and expensive) chess sets available, but if you want a nice, storable and transportable set for playing, this is a good choice.

If wood used for chess pieces was slightly better quality it would be 5 stars
Overall this is solid set but it kinda feels like the wood used is a bit too light and it gives an impression that pieces are cheap. I do not have any objection on the shape or color of any of them, they are all made identical. If just wood was a bit better quality it would be a 5-star rating.

Great little chess set for those with out a permanent place to display it
My kids have recently gotten very interested in chess and my existing chess set had a fixed board, big heavy pieces and we have no place to leave it out.This is a perfect set to take out play a few rounds and safely tuck it away in your game closet. The inside has elastic straps for all the pieces so nothing is rattling around during transportation.Board is solidly build and sits squarely on any flat surface. Great set for the price.

Nice beginning set
This appears to be a nice set for a young beginning chess player. I bought it for my grandson who is turning 10. I like how the pieces are contained in the case which turns into the playing board. Game pieces are lightweight and maybe could be heavier. I don’t know if this will be a problem. For the money I think it was a good buy.

He loved it.We bought a different set from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and paid $10 more thinking they’d be better.Well, they were so small and the wood was poor quality. Folds up and has good latches. Each Chess piece, when stored, has Iit’s own space and easy for kids to see if one is missing. Wish it came with Checkers pieces too. But I did find matching ones online.

Overall highly recommendable. The pieces are well made. The board surface is smooth, but the edges where the board folds are chipped slightly at a couple of places, but not that noticeable. For a more expensive set, I would expect a perfect board.

Really nice set for a very reasonable price
The set (pieces and board) is made of wood and feels like high quality. The pieces are nicely weighted and the pieces look finished. It looks more expensive than it is. The storage in the board isn’t ideal, but that’s definitely not a deal breaker. I’ve been looking for a decent set for a decent price, and this definitely fit the bill.

very nice lightweight set
All wood beginner set with two extra queens for $25!!! Nice Buy. My board folds out quite flat. Very minimal mid-line discrepancy. The veneered squares are flat and level. The box is well constructed of a lightweight wood. The pieces are quite nice though light. Will play fine as they are, but I drilled and added little lead weights. I think the value for the moneywould be hard to beat. Thanks!

I found it well made. The board is smooth and flush so the pieces move well. The pieces are nicely carved, have felt bottoms, and hold well in their elastic loops. My grandkids are learning how to play chess and this is a perfect set for them. All the pieces are stored inside the box, although they do fall out of the elastic strips that are supposed to hold them in place. It would help if they were a little tighter. But it’s a perfect set for beginners

Can’t complain
Nice Chess set, pieces are a little light but top heavy and fall over easily if brushed, no felt on the bottom of the pieces so they don’t slide easily but overall good quality and appearance.

Surprisingly great quality for the price
I bought this chess set for my 10 year old grandson’s birthday. He just opened it up last evening. He was thrilled. We were too! It was very attractive, made from wood. I checked all the wooden pieces and board. The wood felt smooth with felt bottoms on the individual pieces. It was a good size and great storage for the pieces. I think I might make a cloth bag for the set so the wooden board doesn’t get scratched — you know how 10 year old boys are!!!!

Decent – Durable?
Decent initial quality. I do have some skepticism regarding long term durability. The wood that makes up the playing surface looks very very thin, not much thicker than a veneer. The playing pieces are very lightweight. If adults are playing it should last. I bought this for my kiddos, so we will see how long it makes it.

More than I expected
I was surprised the set was all wood, very much as pictured, contained piece information and had little straps to hold each piece. Further, there was an extra black and a white queen. The company also provided a link for chess game instruction—none of which was expected. For the cost involved, the value was very high. I would like to purchase another set, pay a bit more and see if an even finer set was available.

This is a very nice set, and the price is extremely “right”. I purchased it in order to have a chess set here, at my home, that my grandson and others can use when they visit.
