Nice
I find checkers dreadfully boring but have played chess my whole life. As in, grew up with a chess tutor, national tournaments from 6th grade until now, etc. My first two daughters showed no interest in the sport but my youngest asked me last week if I could teach her and I was so excited. Women in chess are rare. So I ordered this, and I’m happy I did. It’s a solid piece, has a drawer with fitted spots for the pieces, the pieces are a nice size and weighted. Nice heavy board. I threw the checkers pieces out but this is a great board for my daughter to learn on. Not light like a tournament set but a good set to keep in the office in the same spot for her lessons.

Beautiful set
This is a REALLY nice chess set that was given to a boy for his 14th birthday who has been learning to play chess but didn’t have a set of his own. This is something he will be able to have his whole life, as it is very beautifully crafted and of good quality.

Very nice set
This set immediately feels high quality right of of the box. The slide out storage shelf fits the chess and checkers pieces snuggly, and each chess piece has a nice felt bottom. The pieces have good weight to them as well. Interestingly enough, I noticed one of the knight pieces has two eyes carved into it (pictured). I’m assuming this is by accident, but I’m honestly not even mad! Kinda gives it character ;)Overall a nice set, at a decent price.

Beautifully crafted

 This is an absolutely stunning set! Going from the plastic set I had to this, there’s no comparison. It’s not as heavy as I expected, but the material quality is fantastic – you can see they really put the effort in to make sure it’s something people would be happy with. The storage inside is great as well and the pieces don’t roll around – each one also has felt on it to prevent scratches or wearing down of the finish. The care instructions that are included are a tad intense but have made a significant difference in how this set has held up so far!

So got this because I’ve been wanting to learn how to play chess forever. The box is gorgeous and has a place specifically for each piece so no need to have to rummage. It feels super sturdy without being overly bulky.

A bit cheesy.
This chess and checkers set is nice. I do like the look and feel of it. The only issue I have is that the top of the board seems a bit cheesy, if you push down on it you can tell that it’s a pretty thin board and concerns me as time goes on. It looks very nice sitting in my Game Room and I can’t wait for my kids to try it for the first time!

This would make a great gift!
This is a nice quality chess and checkers board. The pieces are all stored nicely in an attached drawer. It looks really nice, too, and I plan to have it on display in my game room versus in the closet like the rest of my games. The pieces are all nice quality, too! I was impressed with this set and think it would make a nice gift to anyone who enjoys chess!

Nice chess/checkers set
I am really impressed with the quality of this set. It is made of sturdy wood and has a padded drawer for all the pieces. My daughter has just learned how to play chess at school and she is so excited to have her own chess board and teach her parents. I love that it also includes checkers, as that is my preferred game. The drawer makes this ideal for traveling, even if it is big and a little heavy.

I’m a big fan of all sorts of board and table games and gaming in general. Chess is the most famous and ancient table game and I think everyone has to have a chess table in their home. This specific chess board looks and feels exquisite. It’s not cheap, but it’s worth the asking price. It’s well made, I did not notice any major defects. All pieces and the board squares have a very good fit and finish. There was a very slight smell of treated wood at first, but it went away after a few days. The board and pieces look great and are well made. The pieces are solid and heavy as far as I can tell, and the felt at the bottom is thick. A minor issue I noticed was that some of the pieces had the green felt detached from their base, but it was still sticky, so I just pressed them into place and that was it. There are two additional queen figures included for some reason, no idea why queens. The wood pieces look absolutely beautiful and feel good in the hand and on the board. The chessboard itself looks great too and the wood colors are very warm and smooth. For protection of your furniture, it has 4 rubber pads at the bottom. The figure drawer is easy to open/close and has foam insert precisely cut to size to hold each piece, so they won’t be dangling and scratching in the drawer.A few minor complaints I have, that do not change the rating because they are really minor, are that the wood has some minor finish defects, scratches, dings and that some fine details on pieces are not very well drawn, for example the eyes of knights and queens. But these are really minor issues, most people would not even notice.I would like to note that this chess set will make a great gift to anyone, especially if you are into all tabletop and board games. It comes in a very nice gift box stylized in a chess theme. It looks great and exquisite and even if the person you are gifting it to is not really into chess, it will make a great decorative piece for a living room or a game room. I would be really happy if someone would give me such a nice chess board as a gift :). Take a note for your future gift ideas.*** TL;DR ***Yes, I definitely recommend this chess set. It’s beautiful and very well made, all chess pieces are made of solid wood, heavy and have a thick felt base. Drawer holds all the chess pieces securely. This is a very good set, looks great, it is a pleasure to use, and it looks great on a coffee table as a decorative item. Premium chess/checkers set. Not cheap, but good craftsmanship and presentation.
This is not a cheap setp, but it does feel and look premium that justifies the price. This set would make a great present to any board games lover, and it looks great on the coffee table as part of a decor.I had a similar issue that was mentioned by others – few pieces fell out inside the drawer during shipping and it was hard to open the drawer to get them out. Recommendation to the manufacturer – put a piece of soft foam (padding) on top of the pieces in the drawer which will keep the from sliding and it can be discarded once received. The other minor issue that I observed – a few pieces had the green felt not fully attached at the bottom (see picture of the rook for example) but it is sticky so all I had to do is just press them in place and it took care of it.The pieces look very nice and I did not see any blemishes. Nice finish on the pieces and the board. There is a bit of a smell initially (like from freshly finished wood) but it will probably disappear after a while. It feels well made and assuming my kids won’t lose any pieces… it should last a very long time. Speaking of losing pieces, the set comes with two additional queens. Why specifically queens… I am not sure, are they the most frequently lost pieces statistically? 🙂 Anyway, it is always nice to have extra pieces so that’s a good thing.To sum it up, very nice set and it looks great and pleasant to use.

The set comes as a board over a drawer design and is quite sturdy. The board is a wooden 15″ square chess and checker board that is positioned over a drawer that holds both the wood chess pieces and 24 wood checkers in secure storage. Both the chess pieces and the checkers are made of hard wood and half in light colors and half in red-brown colors, a usual coloration for chess pieces and checkers.The set has a chess game with solid wood Staunton chess pieces. The king is 3.0″ high. The pieces are carefully crafted, weighted, and the surfaces are finely processed to be smooth, comfortable to hold, and easy to clean. There are 2 bonus extra queens for pawn promotion included. The 24 checkers are plain, smooth wood discs in the two colors and look to be of good quality. All the pieces fit into the drawer for safe and secure storage.My son has been using this set to play chess and checkers with his kids and the kids are using it themselves. These are great classic games and it is important to get the younger generations to play them. Fantastic Chess and Checkers Set
This set is fantastic, one of the best purchases we’ve had in ages! The pieces are all high quality, they all feel and look premium. It even has the same smell as the chess board I had as a child, a timeless reminder of quality, I suspect the odor is the treatment of the wood pieces. We’ve introduced chess to our kids and they all love it, they are playing with it as kids will and the set is holding up without any hiccups at all.If we were to critique this set the two shortcomings, the top of the chess/check board itself feels thin, while no on should step on it, if they did I don’t think it would survive. Second, for checkers, it would be nice if they had a “King” side, or included several extra checkers for kinging, we’ve had a number of games where we did not have enough pieces to king each other. These shortcomings wouldn’t change how we feel, this is a great set that will bring you endless hours of enjoyment!

Beautiful chess set
If you’re looking to upgrade from the local store bought chess set this is a great set to go with. The board and pieces looks great and well made. The pieces aren’t hollow from what I can tell and the felt underneath the pieces are thicker than other and hold much better. There is also an extra queen piece for the game. The wood pieces looks good and feel good in hand and on board. The chess board also looks beautiful. Feels well made and color is very clean and smooth. It has 4 rubber stoppers underneath for that added protection. The drawer opens/closes easily and has a foam insert to hold every piece so they aren’t just dumped into the drawer to get dinged and scratched up.Pros:- looks great and well-made- sturdy pieces- foam drawer insert- felt and rubber protectionCons:- some of the foam cutouts don’t hold the pieces well and falls out easily- various poor finishings, minor scratches, nail holes-some pieces like the knight eyes are poorly finishedOverall a great chess upgrade set that looks great set up on a table. Would not recommend as a travel set.

An attractive chess set
I collect chess sets. I’m not going to sit here and claim that this is the finest set in my collection. It isn’t. It’s possible to spend hundreds, even thousands, of dollars on a chess set. However, this is a very nice classical-looking chess set, that’s perfect for playing at home and will make a nice addition to anyone’s collection.It’s a bit smaller than tournament size, but that actually makes it probably ideal for home use where space is a bit more of a concern. I also love that the pieces nest quite snugly into the storage tray in the drawer, and that it comes with a pair of extra queens. It also comes with a complete set of checkers, which is a nice addition even though I’m primarily interested in it as a chess set.Honestly, there’s really nothing to complain about here. If you’re looking for a high quality yet affordable chess board, this is a good choice.

Wood makes the best chess sets
When I was a kid, I received a wooden folding chess set as a gift. I kept it for a great many years until it was sadly worn out. For me, a wooden chess set IS chess in some way. This chess set reminds me so much of the one I had for so many years that it is like finding an old friend!It is well made of real wood that smells wonderful. All the joins in the wood are very close and there is no messy glue or other issues. The drawer does fit just a bit loosely on the sidesThe pieces have classic, wooden shapes. They are weighted at the bottoms and make a healthy, hollow bump when moved. The board surface is just a bit on the thin side so you wouldn’t want a child to thump it or step on it by accident.I look forward to using this chess set for many years.

Beautiful and Functional
Terrific product for low cost. Purchased this just before holidays – BIG hit with grandkids (7 & 11 years old) teaching them both checkers and chess. They spent hours playing both games against each other and against other family members. They are now hooked! Similiar sets cost 100s of dollars. Very attractive set with felt-lined built-in storage drawer. The online pictures really don’t do it justice. Get this for your kids and grands and get them off their electronic brainwashing devices NOW!

Well made and lovely chessboard.
The box it comes in is nice and it would definitely be a nice gift set. The pieces have a comfortable weight to them. Definitely a good chessboard. One issue I came across was when opening it the chess pieces had come loose while in transportation. I couldn’t get the drawer completely open and was concerned about damaging the pieces or the board. It worked out in the end. Aside from that the drawer is slightly tight around the middle of opening it. It does have to be pulled out with some force. That may just be the board I received though.Overall it’s a lovely and well made board and I’m fully satisfied with my purchase.

Drawer sticks closed
It is an exquisite chess board however the bottom of the drawer sticks and you cannot get it open. At first we thought it was a piece lodged however the middle of the bottom of the board is bowed making it impossible to open without a shim. Even then it took us over 20 minutes to open this bad boy. For the price and quality it is, it should come ready to play.

Beautiful chess-checkers set
This is such a well made beautiful checkers/chess set. The pieces are carved out of wood and have a nice finish, the box is beautiful and the inside is well finished and velvety. My boys play with this set very often for the past year and I can see it to continue being a family affair for years to come.This set would be a really great gift for a checker/chess lover. I am very happy with this set.
