I am very pleased with this set
I am very pleased with this set. It was received rather quickly. The board is well-made and light. The stain is of a good contrast. The pieces are of a good size and make a satisfying sound on the board when they are moved. I don’t know if they are hand-carved or not as I am not well-versed in either using a wood lathe or wood whittling, but they are very nice looking pieces nonetheless, and they fit well within the green velvety/plastic trays that are found within the center of the board. Given the price that some chess sets ask for, I would say this travel set is well worth the $49 dollars I paid for it.

Quality disappointing
The quality was disappointing, not much different from a made in china set, tho this is made in poland and advertised as superior quality. Not even as good as a roll up vinyl travel set. I returned…

It works for what it is. The pieces seem small compared to the squares.

Adequate…barely!
The chess board is fine but the inner liner is just flocked cardboard. For the price you’d expect a green felt covering. This product fails to meet reasonable expectations. The chess pieces are adequate.

This is a KEEPER!
So happy I got this set. It’s nice and has a larger playing area that most others. The pieces are nice and the two wood finishes are beautiful. The biggest surprise was when my 12 year old daughter played 3 games in a row. Kept her interested for a long time!! Check mate for sure! Folds and the pieces are stowed inside the board/box, so there’s only the board you have to keep track of. Hinges keep the box closed until you open for set up. Very nicely done and happy with this decision to purchase.

No reason for negative reviews
Great set. The weighted pieces are just right. The board and the colors are perfect. I have two chess sets from this brand. Great value for the quality. There’s no reason for negative reviews with this set. Affordable and great looking set.

This was my second time got this chess set. First one brought it before COVID hit. Great time there with the set. Recently got my 2nd purchase, it was in bad condition. Had to return it. My third chess board is amazing. I guess three times the charm.

Good for the price, wish there were extra queens
Pieces are nice, well made for a mass produced item. A few minor, expected imperfections on the fine details on the knight. Felting is goodish. Some are slightly off-center and uneven in thickness, but overall good. I wouldn’t go as far as some and say that they’re not weighted, as they definitely are, but they are pretty light. My biggest qualm is the lack of extra queens. This is a tournament board and it’s list price is $105. While I’m paying a fraction of the price currently, I would expect a second set of queens, even at this price.Board is nice. You can see some spots along the burned grid where the wood itself around the engraving is burned, but nothing offensive. I worry a bit about the felt on the not perfectly smooth surface, but I’m sure it’s fine. When unfolded, the board sits evenly without any gaps. The latches seem okay, but I can see them breaking after some use. The real issue is in the storage portion of the board. It’s a cheap, (thankfully) removable foam…thing? The pieces fit in okayish, but after slight jostling they’ll be out of place upon opening. If you’re crafty at all, the foam can be removed with no problem and replaced with a better functioning piece cradle. All in all, this is great for $35. Wish there were more queens.

Excellent Board!
Me and my son have been playing for awhile in a crappy board. Finally decided to get a better board. We looked at about everything available on all major websites and decided on this one. We are super happy. This is a very nice board, especially at this price. I would highly recommend!

Good Set For 50 Dollars
I was looking for a replacement for my 20+ year old wooden chess set which has a very worn board. My requirements were that it be wooden, with a 15+” board, and be reasonably good looking with “staunton-esque” (traditional) chess pieces.I did a fair amount of research and this is the set I decided on. For approximately 50 dollars, I believe this to be a decent, well crafted chess set. The pictures provided with the product description match what I received, with one exception (see below), so you can decide for yourself how aesthetically pleasing you find them. Personally, I like the look of the knight; it comes off looking slightly befuddled, which I find amusing.Bear in mind, this is a wooden set with carved pieces which do require time and effort to craft. In my opinion, you are not going to get a wooden chess set that will stun your friends and neighbors for fifty dollars. You get what you pay for, and your expectations need to be realistic. I also considered several sets in the 200 dollar range that were much nicer, tournament size, with extra queens. I decided on this set since I simply don’t play enough to justify the cost.Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I am deducting one star for a couple of reasons: (1) The grid markers are off center on my board. They are off by enough that it looks a bit strange. (2) (minor) The interior storage compartment is fairly cheap; the queen, in fact, doesn’t quite fit the mold, but the case still closes fine.I aimed for a fair review; I believe some people expect an absolutely stunning, decorative wooden set for 50 dollars. I spent several hours researching my options. My conclusion is that this is a good set for the price. I am happy with my purchase.

Beautifully made chess board
Would recommend this board to anyone that wants a unique and high quality tournament style board. Got it for my son for Christmas, it instantly became his favorite. Polish wood craftsmanship is an art form in itself, and this board is a great example of those skills!

Love it!!!
I’m brand new to chess. I’m learning online and wanted a board to actually practice on. This is a real wooden board with coordinates, foldable, inside felt storage and wooden pieces. It’s also made in Poland and NOT China!!! It’s a good size and something you could travel with. I highly recommend!I also ordered through smile.SAH Creatives.com and a portion of my purchase went to my favorite charity! A win, win!And the UPS delivery man was very respectful with me package. He put it down gently and rang the doorbell. My other SAH Creatives delivery via an SAH Creatives truck, was thrown on my porch…. Very disappointed in him!

Honest Review
I just played my first two games with it today. The board itself is very nice both in size and aesthetics. The pieces are slightly light weight for wood but I feel there’s a lot of over exaggerating on them here. They look decent and I have little to no complaints on my pieces or board for this price! No chipping on any of them. My only complaint is the storage of pieces inside. I’m probably gonna just buy foam padding and custom make better inserts for storage purposes. I can update later if any of the felt or locking mechanism of the board fails. I’m gonna say 4/5 as far as chess sets go and very satisfied with the purchase!

Quality set.
First off I’m a real person taking the time to review this product. Second I don’t review products often. And third this chess set is top shelf in my opinion. For 95% of people out there this will be the set you want to get. It’s not too expensive, there is plenty of felt on the bottoms of the pieces, the squares are square, the numbers and letters are carved into the board, and the pieces are a nice style. For some the set my be too cartoony, but for most it meets all the expectations. Quality crafted pieces though they aren’t all 100% the same they are 99.99999% accurate. None of the piece is too small or too large, the board is a good size, and the pieces aren’t too heavy or too light. I recommend this set to anyone looking to get into chess or anyone who doesn’t want to spend more the $100.

I would say its a good board. I bought this one in particular in case my kid gets tired of playing chess and I can display it on a table somewhere in my house. The pieces are lovely.

Great chess set
I just wanted a chess set that wasn’t extravagant (made from unicorn horns or the last of some endangered tree in Africa), wasn’t too expensive (I can’t fathom paying hundreds of dollars for a set), and wasn’t some cheap, plastic nonsense, either. Score! This is a simple and elegant chess set. Everything seems properly-sized (not too big, not too small), and the set looks and feels nice. The internal piece storage is useful and there’s an individual socket for every piece. The pieces have just a little bit of weight to them, which just feels nice when you’re moving them around the board. The board itself has the grid letter/number markings on all sides, and has no strange gaps at the hinges, so the board is virtually seamless when folded out.Overall, great value for the price.

Better than most
The jowisz decorative chess board is a very good value. I have looked at most chess boards from department stores at slightly lesser price, the quality really isn’t there for a 35 dollar wood set. This chess set has a handcrafted feel, the pieces are weighted a little bit with metal which is something you don’t get with a department store chess set. Something to keep in mind is that compared to the most expensive department store chess sets, the wood pieces are of much higher quality from whatever mix of wood they are made from (hornbeam and others?).It was slightly confusing purchasing this board because there are different manufacturers that seem to make the identical product. This is the sunrise handicrafts board marketed by Wegiel. There is also a polandchess.com site that seems to sell identical products stating, “It does not belong to handicrafts chess which are made of pine wood, birch wood and others.” Despite the confusion, the Wegiel board at SAH Creatives appears to be of good quality.

Decent quality for the price
I did a lot of research in looking for a good chess set for a sub-$40 price range, and came across this one.The board is fairly attractive, and does not have the flaws many other boards apparently have (e.g. skewed/offset lines). The material is light, but not cheap feeling (except the inner felt, which is garbage – but I don’t care about that too much). The pieces have a good feel to them, but they have no heft or weight to speak of; that said, they aren’t flimsy or under-weighted – they work ok.Overall, a good set for the price.

Larger than expected with a nauseating smell
After looking at other sets and finding people expressing how what they ordered was smaller than expected, I went with this one, and found the opposite true: larger than expected–the board specifically; you’ll need a large open space to set this on. The pieces themselves are decent enough, but the impressions for them on the bottom (inside) the board don’t make for a perfect fit–and are not in obvious shapes. For example, the king and queen will only fit in one spot, but its hard to tell from looking which is which until you try to place them; even then it is not a “perfect” fit (have to sort of force them there).Another issue for me, and this was the one to really put me off the set, is the awful smell (from the finish?). It literally made me nauseous. Maybe mine was an exception, or it will fade with time.

Handmade just means glued on the felt by hand…
It’s a nice enough board, but entirely lacking in the value for money department. I paid the exorbitant price believing the pieces and board were hand carved, given the title reads “handmade”. It’s a basic machine made board and pieces, the only handmade aspect is using a foul smelling glue to adhere the (cheap) felt to the pieces and storage area in the board.Still feels nice enough, but a price point half of what it is would’ve been fair.EDIT; bumped to two stars, like I said, nice enough board. I also just bought at a bad time apparently/the SAH Creatives algos got me, or something, paid over $80 for it, hence the disappointment. Was expecting higher quality and actual craftsmanship. @$51 I still don’t recommend, but not terrible.

Nice set for the money – I’m pleased
This is a nice set for the money. Some reviewers said the claims of the pieces being weighted were false, but they seem to be off the mark. I found the pieces are definitely weighted. If they weren’t, they’d be light as a feather, being that they’re made of a medium to light density wood. These pieces are nice and stable. I’m pleased with the weighting, and the set including the board is, overall, attractive. The mold that holds all the pieces is indeed cheap and not 100% secure. With the case closed, a few can pop out of their slots. But in my case, all of the pieces at least do fit in their slots. I think a solution to this will be to pad the molding from the back on both sides to press the halves together a little more firmly. That will keep the same look but make a more secure fit.

Cheap, but that’s why its priced the way it is
The pieces are nice, but not amazing. For instance, one of the pawns has a flat spot on the base from being turned from a piece of wood slightly too small. The Kings aren’t one piece of wood, the decorative cross on top is glued on, which seems unnecessary since it isn’t that delicate a detail. The felt on the bottom of the pieces is cheap and the weights aren’t all flush with the bottom of the pieces (at least they’re all deeper instead of sticking out of the bottom). The board is quite thin, and feels very delicate. I would be hesitant to really use this set as a travel set despite it having a folding board because I doubt it would hold up to the wear and tear of that kind of use. All that said, it is a relatively cheap wood set with a board with algebraic notation (which is just painted on by the way). It looks and plays pretty nice and for what I wanted it for, it was priced right.

good chess set
My 9 year old son is really into chess. I wanted a chess set that would look nice sitting on our coffee table, and that would be enjoyable to use, but I’m not up paying for a high-end chess set at this time. At $40 this chess set is perfect for us.I noticed that some reviewers complained about the weight of the pieces – the weight has been fine for us. I also saw some complaints about imperfections in the board. I think it’s important to have realistic expectations – if you are looking for a truly high end chess set then you will need to pay more for it. But if you are just looking for a set that is enjoyable to use and also attractive, this is a good choice.

Perfect Chess Set for us
I love chess and have been searching for a chess set for almost a year. Seeing how I play with my 11 year old son I did not want to spend too much but also did not want something cheap. I let my son open the package, which arrived on time and packed well with bubble wrap, he was very excited. The set is very nice, the contrasting wood colors, pieces, and letters & numbers on board all look amazing and sharp. All the pieces fit very well inside the folding chess set, nothing moving around or rattling inside and the two locks seem to hold together with a nice snap sound so you know it’s secure when locked. Also, we like the rope burn marks that divide the spaces, very nice touch. I would order again from this company and definitely recommend to friends and family. I know how hard it can be to find a reliable company so once I find one I pretty much stick with them.

Looks great, could use a few improvements in design
Looks great. The pieces, though don’t stay in their places when the case is closed for traveling. Half of them move around. Also, the latches are small and you need a fingernail to get under the tiny edge of the latch and pop it open.
