Great toy
My 1 year old and my 2.5 year old play with this toy non stop. It keeps them busy and entertained by themselves!

Excellent quality, cool toy!
We love this toy! Honestly I think it’s my favorite toy my kiddo owns, lol. My toddler who is now 20 months, has had this toy for a little over 6 months now and still plays with is almost daily. The craftsmanship is wonderful, it’s extremely sturdy, I’ve caught the little guy briefly standing on it(until mom comes running over to stop him, of course) multiple times and he’s 25 pounds. Even all the removable parts and constructed very well. You can tell that this company really cares about quality. Here’s a breakdown of how the toy works: when the xylophone and the balls are all in place, the child hammers each ball through (takes a 2-3 taps) and the ball rolls down the xylophone hitting the metal pieces making a pleasant sound on its way. It’s very easy to use, and it’s an easy concept for the learning toddler. I’d say at 1 year and up is a great age, earlier than that maybe just the xylophone part and close monitoring with the hammer as it could pose a choking hazard (long handle). The xylophone is removable if the child feels like just a jam sesh on it which is great, it has a little handle for easy portability and my little one likes to just run around with it sometimes. Another great thing is that other objects work fine at making music on this xylophone, even a plastic megablox piece for example, which allows a little room for creativity and exploration of materials.I do wish they sold extra wooden balls though, or maybe if it came with an extra set. If your playroom, or toy box is anything like mine, there are lots of little things and stuff like that can easily get seperated and temporarily misplaced. After all this time, that is the only draw back for me.(…)

The product was fine – the box made it look like a reject.
I bought this as a 1 year birthday gift for my little niece. It arrived with the lid of the box roughly torn in two. Makes it look as it is a used gift I’m giving her. Very embarrassing. The pull toy dog also had the lid ripped in two. I’m not asking for a refund or replacement. I just thought you might want to know what is going on with deliveries. My little niece won’t care about the box once she sees the gift.

Great Gift!
We love Hape Toys and this toy lives up to expectations. We bought this for both an older baby and a toddler and both seem to enjoy it very much. Even our 5yr old likes playing with it. It is excellent quality. Both the wood and paint holds up very well to repetitive, rough play. Our baby enjoys clapping the balls together and off the xylophone. Attempts to use the little hammer are helping her motor skills. The sound quality of the xylophone itself is good – my husband can even play a Star Wars themes on it! 😉 I have only two reasons for giving it 4-stars instead of 5: 1) sometimes the balls do not roll after they are hit through the hole – which could be because of old uneven floors – but if I lift the handle ever so slightly they roll with ease… so the angle of the xylophone in the stand could be just a little greater to prevent this; and 2) although the toy is compact and stores away nicely, there is no where to secure the hammer. We place ours inside the stand on top of the xylophone but the opening where the balls to exist is too large allowing the hammer to fall out easily. BUT, all and all it is a fantastic toy that we would recommend to others.

Very happy!
I gave this to my grand-daughter (7 months). even though the recommended beginning age is 1 year. She does fine with close adult supervision and limited play (she can lift it and bang it around if we allowed). I like to get toys with several developmental activities that will last a long time and this fits the bill.At her age, we played with the balls (very brightly colored and large enough so not to be a choking hazard). She could easily grab and hold them, put them in and out of buckets; she really was interested in tracking them as they slowly rolled on the hardwood floor. She tried to put them in the designated holes on the bench, but I don’t think she fully grasps that task yet.Very interested in the sounds when we pushed them through the holes and watching them roll out! Encouraged her to semi-crawl and reach for them. I tapped them in with the hammer to get them through, but it took some force (she can’t do it yet) and it’s a little loud!I love that it’s two toys in one with the xylophone that pulls out and used by itself. A WORD OF CAUTION WITH THE HAMMER: We will not let her play with the hammer without close supervision. The long handle is a definite choking hazard! She could tap it to play music when we held it with her. We also hit the keys with the balls and they made music – safer for babies her age. The sound on this one was fine – in tune enough as expected for a toy.Non-toxic; the colors are very bright and interesting to a child. Well built and seems it will be long-lasting. So much to learn (colors, numbers, shapes, fine/gross motor skills, cause-effect, music!). For all that – I think the price is very reasonable.

Nice, but …
I am disappointed by the mallet provided to tap the xylophone and colorful balls. The one that came with our set is different than the photo shown in the photo above – ours has only a square ‘head’ with pointed corners, the ‘stick’ seems skinnier and clearly a hazard if our one-year-old family member were to put it in their mouth. It should have a cord attaching it to the xylophone from the smaller end that would discourage a child from moving around with it in their mouth!

Cute and functional
Lots of moving pieces so you have a few different toys in one. My 16 month old enjoys rolling the balls around and pushing them through the holes. He also likes pulling the xylophone out and trying to put it back as well as hitting the xylophone with the hammer to make noise. You can take away the hammer if needed and the toy still works well 🙂 Most importantly the balls are too large to be put in my toddler’s mouth. We’ve had to put away other toys like the egg shaped shakers and small balls because everything gets shoved in his mouth but this toy is ideal in that the balls are slightly too large.

Hape toys are great for toddlers be aware they may not come in as designed
My 22 month old daughter loves toys made by Hape. We have always enjoyed toys made by them, however the balsa on the handle of this wooden ball xylophone was chipped and we knew that the durability if used wouldn’t last. I would buy this and we have returned and reordered the toy. I hope our next one will be glued properly and last. I’ll update the review when we get the replacement this Saturday.

Very cute and original toy
My 16 month old really loves this. I wish there was something that caught the balls cause they always end up under the couch but I guess if you have a baby cage you’re good. He can pull the xylophone out by himself. he hasn’t played the xylophone yet but I’m sure he will eventually. The mallet isn’t a great idea for him yet cause he flails his arms around and will clock me or his dad with it so that’s put away for now. He uses his hand to push the ball down and that works just fine.

My Great Grandson’s favorite Toy
When I ordered this product I didn’t realize it would become a daily part of out lives. My Great grandson absolutely loves this toy. I love the fact that it is sturdy, the balls are large enough not to present a choking hazard, and the xylophone is a great first musical instrument tool. he loves to take the little hammer and beat the balls until they roll down onto the xylophon. He plays with the xylophone within without the box and the same for the box and balls. Its not a quiet toy, but it’s not overly noisy either. Another plus. Kudos to the creator!

Great toy, very pleased!
I don’t know who enjoys playing with this more, us or our son! We bought this for our 1 year old son, and he loves pushing the balls through with his hands. We, adults, even enjoy playing little songs on the xylophone. The balls roll down the xylophone as intended, and it sounds perfectly in tune. I like that you can pull the xylophone out separately; it’s like 2 toys in one! It seems well built, we haven’t had any issues thus far in the two months we’ve had it, and we usually play with this every day. Would buy again!

Very happy with this!
Though other reviews mention disappointments such as keys not in tune; I find them fine and I even hammered out a few simple tunes successfully. Also, the metal keys are now protected with a bar over all the fasteners, improving the safety. Got a great deal on this featured item, and looking forward to gifting it to my one year old granddaughter!

The concept is great, but the reality can be very disappointing.
The product is sturdy, and attractive in concept. Here’s where I feel it has room for improvement: The balls will only roll out if you leave the xylophone inside the base. In fairness the sound it creates as the last ball, red, rolls across the keys is fun. The distance is really too short for the other two balls. Once you remove the xylophone, the space available to tap the keys is minimal due to a rail designed for the balls to roll out and offer some protection for the keys. It’s renders the xylophone with the little wooden wand and no ringing tone a non-starter. With the xylophone out of the base, the balls just drop to the carpet and create zero excitement. And no, it was not designed to flip the xylophone over and slide it in, that would have helped. Also, the hammer if used in the proper striking position gets caught into the holes once a ball is struck. The result with a 17 month old is that the hammer is used sideways or the balls are simply pushed through by hand, and the xylophone just sits outside of the base unused. Some of these concerns may change with age? However, do not buy this toy believing you will get a truly functional xylophone. The smallest key is 1-3/8 of an inch, and the next slightly larger, with a rails on both sides blocking them to some degree all the way up. There is also no true ringing tone for any one of them. Love the idea but…..

Beautiful well made toy
This is a great toy!!! It is aesthetically pleasing for a kids toy, well crafted, and has several playing abilities. My one year old already loves putting and pushing the balls in/through their holes, hammering with the mallet, and using the instrument, which ingeniously pulls out to be used on its own too! I took off one star only because the balls falling to the ground or the instrument can get stuck and are easy to lose (I search for one of those balls at least once a day), not so much a fault with the toy as can be annoying if you don’t want to stop what you’re doing to dislodge a ball or get one from under the couch. Otherwise this is a wonderful toy that most people comment on when they see it!

Cute, fun, aesthetically pleasing product! – but CHOKING HAZARD (!)
I loved this product. My son has always been ahead of the game in physical development, so like many other customers, we bought it for him a little earlier than 12 months (9 months) and he learned quickly how to use the mallet to hit the balls onto the xylophone, which makes a beautiful little sound. Great for developing hand-eye coordination and musical interest. However, when he was just about a year old (note that the recommended age on the product is 12 months), he discovered he could fit the balls inside of his mouth, which is terrifying, because they’re definitely something he could have choked on (just looking at them, I thought they were too big for that, but he found a way!). Luckily we got the ball out of his mouth, and have removed them from his reach. However, due to that incident, I would warn other customers to heed the choking hazard warning at the bottom (underneath all of the product information) and wait until child is older than (at least) 2 years old to purchase/has stopped putting everything into the mouth. The recommended age of 12 months is probably too soon for most babies.

Love Hape! Just, why balls, WHY??
I want to give this 5 stars because it’s gotten so much usage out of all my kids. It’s fun, musical, colorful, yet made of mostly natural materials, crafted well and has balls which is always a hit with my kiddos. Hammer too! Ball+hammer+rainbow+musical+Hape= mostly happy children.Freaking, balls though. Urrrgh. This toy makes me want to avoid other toys with balls because well, they roll. That’s what balls do. I know this as we all kmow this to be the basic property of the ball. Geometry and physics and whatnot. When I take this one out to play (that’s another thing this one HAS to be put away after playing with it, which is NOT my favorite thing), pretty much immediately the balls go missing. Or the hammer. Balls rolling under couches, into random rooms of the house they have no business being in (how do they even roll that far??), balls getting stuck places..and on and on. Also, it’s not much fun playing with it when one of the balls has gone missing for several days, so this one often ends up in the toy box until I’ve spent way too much time looking for, you guessed it. Balls.

Best Christmas Present
My 12m daughter loves it. My dad wanted something non-electronic for her so I found this. She plays with it everyday and opts to play with it over her “tablet” and dolls.Note: My Australian shepherd has an obsession with the wooden balls that came with it. She steals them daily if they are left out and buries them in the backyard. Hape sells an affordable replacement set (Amen!) which I really appreciated.

Advertises for 12month+, my 14month old nicked the wood in several places within 5min
This is a very cute toy! My 14month old son loves being able to hit the balls through the holes. But, within 5min of letting him play with it, he nicked the wood in several places from trying to hit the balls. They are minor nicks and I honestly figured that would probably happen letting a 14month old “smash” away, but for the price it does kind of stink it happened within 5min of giving it to him. Also, most of the time when hitting the balls through the holes, they get stuck on the xylophone and do not roll down like they’re suppose to. Maybe it’s because we have it sitting in our living room on carpet. I haven’t tried in on our vinyl kitchen floor yet. Other than those issues, I love how you can take the xylophone out to play it, I think that’s a great idea! My son also loves to take it out and make some music.

Amazing company!
Firstly, I have to say that I very rarely write a review – but in this instance Hape has really impressed me. I got this toy for my son (<1 y/o) and he loves it. He plays on it daily, loves making music, playing with the balls and the mallet. Unfortunately, I had a defective xylophone and after a month of my son playing with it, the xylophone broke. We own many Hape products and have never had a problem with them, so I contacted Hape to let them know that the toy broke and they immediately got in contact with me. They were very concerned about the safety of my son and wanted to know all the details regarding the problem with the xylophone. They asked for the batch number and pictures and took immediate action. I am so impressed. AND then they sent my son replacement toys. I am completely blown away. It is amazing that in this day and age companies still have integrity and stand behind the products that they make. It is so rare. We have many Hape products and I plan to continue to purchase them in the future. What a great company and fantastic products.

My 12 month old LOVES it!
I bought this for my daughter at 10 months for Christmas and she’s loved it! At first she would just push the balls in with her hand and now at 12 months she’s learning to use the hammer and she loves practicing with it! You can also take out the xylophone so it’s like two toys in one!

El producto tiene excelentes acabados y calidad, los colores son llamativos con decoración divertida. Compré un sapito y el banco musical y volvería a comprar productos Hape sin dudarlo porque definitivamente me encantan y mi bebe los amo.

Grows with your baby
My 8-month-old granddaughter has found many ways to play with this toy. The mallets are apparently great to chew on. She also uses them to tap on anything she can find to see if she can make noise. I was concerned that she could gag herself with them, but this hasn’t been a problem. The balls also serve the same purpose. And the bench makes oddly satisfying sounds. There are two downsides to this toy. 1. The xylophone is tinny and off-pitch (baby doesn’t care but it bugs me) and 2. there are several parts to the toy, which means tracking them down if you want to play with all of it.

Fun for all
My daughter cracked up every time Miss Rachel used this so we bought her one for her 1st Birthday. She loves to bang on the balls and xylophone and her other toys with the mallet. Sometimes when I’m playing with the Xylophone she decides it’s her turn and takes over for me. She has yet to hit herself or the dog so that is great!

Love this produce
I bought this as a gift for a first bday. My kids loved ball hammer toys when they were young. I was hesitant because, usually, I’m not too fond of xylophone toys because they typically sound so bad. This one sounds great! As the balls fall through the holes they ding the music, which is a nice touch. The child can easily remove the xylophone and carry it around. This is one of the favorite toys for the 1 and 2-year-olds I watch!

Good except for paper songs
Good quality and my son likes it (as does his 5-year-old sister haha). Only complaint is that the songs that come with it are on a long paper, so that got torn right away. Thicker paper/cardboard would be much better
