Great for little hands, box keeps things organized
This was purchased for our babiest who is almost 2. His motor skills are developing and he is really enjoying playing with the big fat beads and the string. In a little more time, he’ll put them on the strings.Box is great for storage.

Wish I Read Reviews
I wish I would have read reviews before purchasing. My little girl unfortunately got her finger stuck in the hole of the bead. I was able to finally get it unstuck by using cooking oil. I love the toy but will be putting away till she is old enough to use it.

Great colorful manual dexity for toddlers
Our granddaughter just loved playing with these beads when I filled in for my daughter’s daycare. As soon as I walked in the door she would ask if I had the beads. She’s 2.5 years old and it took her a little while to be able to master stringing the beads. But they held her interest and until she mastered the skill. We had great fun making necklaces together.

My 3yo Loves This!
My 3-year-old daughter absolutely loves this. It was a gift for her birthday, and she loves to make necklaces and patterns with all the beads. She learned very quickly how to string them. Only complaint would be storability – the wooden box is nice, but it would be very beneficial to have some sort of lid to keep everything in!

Love these!
My 2 year old enjoys playing with these BUT i wish it came with a box or carrying case or something!

Love it
I would say my daughter was not into them until she turned about 2 1/2 but she loves them now and it helps with motor skills and problem-solving. We even bring this to her occupational therapy sessions once in a while.

Cute but box edge sharp
Haven’t had a problem with M&D items in the past, however this one has little pieces of wood in the unopened box and the pictured edge is sharp.Frustrating. Going to try to return.

Le encanto a mi pequeño de dos años . Simplemente usa su creatividad
Mis dos años le encanto. Le fascinó los colores. Definitivamente recomiendo para pequeños que ya no meten cosas a la boca. Por el tamaño .

Bought this as a gift
Bought these as a gift for my 2 year old granddaughter. Chunky, good quality wooden beads and the laces were also bright, colorful and durable. Very nice gift.

Had to buy for second child
Donated/gifted majority of my kids toys when she got older, so bought this again for my second child. Was my daughter’s favorite at 2 years old but my son could care less for it. He used it as a weapon and chucked it at people and around the house. Haha. Depends on the child, but I still give it 5 stars as I think it teaches fine motor skills at a young age. As well as shapes, colors, and creativity.

Develop fine motor skills
I chose these lacing beads to help my LO with fine motor skills. These were preferred over other available choices because they have a larger hole and make it easier for little ones with emerging skills. At the suggestion of our child’s Occupational Therapist, we use these with pipe cleaners because the more rigid “string” makes it much easier to manipulate. My LO will sit and “work” with these beads for 15-20 minutes. These beads are also great for shapes, colors, and counting. I would highly recommend these for any little one, but especially a child with developmental delays/special needs.

One Thing Lacking
As with other toys by this brand, it’s solidly made. But there’s no good way to store this once you’ve opened it other than on a flat surface. If it had a cover or bag to store the pieces in, it would merit 5 stars.

Great for Motor Skills
We love this toy! It’s a great educational toy, without the kiddos knowing it’s educational. They just think they’re making necklaces and bracelets.

Quality As Always
Every Melissa & Doug toy that I’ve ever purchased or received for my child has been stellar. I adore the fact that so many of the pieces are wooden instead of plastic, and the little wooden crates they use for the packaging is beyond useful. They’re great for counting, categorizing, or just plain storage. I’m honestly at a point now where I will choose Melissa & Doug over competitors because I have no doubts about what I will be getting. Love!

My 2 year old is getting so good at these!
At 1 she really struggled, but I brought them out again at 2 and she is having fun learning to lace. She also likes to lace just a few and then drag the rope around the house behind her. The beads become make-believe food she serves to her stuffy, lots of open ended play opportunities as well as skill-building. The quality is on par with most Melissa and Doug products these day…better than most, but still clearly mass produced.

Great for dexterity
Educational toys are my favorite. The colors are vibrant and they are sturdy wooden beads. Now while I’m making jewelry my granddaughter can bead with me. Love this toy.

Great Product
The pieces are a good size, but my concern was my daughter who is two puts everything in her mouth. These beads and blocks are the perfect sizes for her. Definitely recommend and was recommended by Occupational Therapist!

Great well made set from Melissa & Doug. The set offers lots of learning options. Stringing beads, learning colors, shapes and making patterns. Endless ideas! Great for two year olds though preschool.

Love these
My grandkids love stringing beads. We always used pipe cleaners and beads but they usually end up dropping half of them. These are the perfect size and easier to clean up. My 2 year old grandson and 3 year old granddaughter both love them.

great pass time for toddlers and preschoolers
I was babysitting my grandchildren for three days while their parents were out of town. I brought a couple of toys to help out in case of rain. This toy was wonderful occupying the two preschoolers while getting the toddler to bed!

My baby loves this toy
My little one enjoys stringing beads and likes my husband and I to encourage her to play. Wood toys usually last long I think. This one is not perfect though, I found two beads have defections. Check before giving them to baby.

Shapes are easy to hold but beads don’t stay on
It caused frustration because when our granddaughter strung the beads they would fall off if she lifted it. The pieces are easy to hold, and colors bright… but there needs to include an “end piece”

How to improve this product
The beads themselves are terrific. It would have been appreciated if the crate came with some sort of lid to help keep the beads in the box for storage. Also, just an idea – for little beginners, what if you made the aglet (plastic tip of the lace) long enough to go through the bead, so the lace isn’t bending when the child tries to push it through – they will have instant success and satisfaction, and be more likely to keep lacing since they aren’t getting so frustrated.

Limited appeal to toddlers
The toddlers in my world don’t seem to be drawn to this toy and I have a playroom full of top rated toys to choose from, including many made by Melissa and Doug. The children old enough to be able to grasp and guide the laces through the holes in the wooden “beads” quickly lose interest while the younger ones once they find they can’t stack them, won’t play with them at all. Not a good investment for me.

Fun, but Some Difficulty
We love this set! My toddler truly enjoys it. My only complaint is that the inside of each bead is rough which makes it difficult for a newbie to thread the string through. It gets caught on all the little splinters inside there. It wouldn’t take much to sand that smoothly.

Definitely a choking hazard for children who put things in their mouth! Watch out grandparents!
We purchased these for our 2 year old granddaughter when we visited and were babysitting. Thank goodness we were both right there when we opened them. She loved them, but immediately popped one of the round ones right in her mouth! I was able to get my finger in and swoosh it out and then she cried terribly as we quickly picked them up and took them away. We’re too afraid to try them again. They appear to be very durable and would probably be fine for kids if you KNOW they won’t put them in their mouth. It would also be nice if the container had some sort of lid. I would not purchase as a gift because I’d be too afraid of the risk.

Boring for my 3 year old
Should have introduced this sooner. Used once when I encouraged it, but my 3 year old was bored within 3 minutes. She hasn’t chosen to use it again and it has been weeks. Age range should be 1-3 so it can provide at least a little bit of a challenge. Listing this toy as 3+ is a mistake.

Great but the string gets stuck – not sanded in center
I wanted to love this and my son keeps trying to put the beads on the string but the string can’t get through as the center of the bead isn’t sanded. I need to either sand it or get a different kind of string (leather or plastic) so it doesn’t catch. Great size though!

Works great for our son’s occupational therapy
I got these for my 3 yo who is in Occupational Therapy since the beads they were trying to have him work with were too small for my comfort level my son is developmentally delayed and also has sensory needs that he meets thru oral stimulation so most of all things go in his mouth so when I looked up on Sah Creatives for ones that were more for him I came across these. I dont let him play with they outside of therapy sessions just so he doesnt get bored of them and so they dont get misplaced. To make them more of something special that will draw his attention during his sessions. He loves these things they come with several shoe string type laces but we use these to stack and also to play on a pencil to help work with his fine motor skills and he does so well with them and like I mentioned he loves them. I will say I can see them being a hazard to small fingers cuz our son sticks his fingers in them all the time but again I dont let him play with these unsupervised and probably wouldnt have these unless it was for his therapy so something to consider when purchasing them. Overall these have been great to work with him in sessions and have really helped him grasp the lesson that his therapist is trying to help him develop with his small fingers.

Fantastic toys
I gave this set to my 17month old grandson for Christmas. He loves them! The are sturdy, solid wooden pieces. The paint is deeply coated (I don’t think they will ever have paint chips coming off) and the hole in the middle is just the right size. The beading strings are sturdy with long enough good plastic ends to lace the string. There are one color of each different shape. (1 blue: square, circle, oval etc….) I think these are a great way to teach children both color and shapes at the same time. As well as helping them to develop their fine motor control skills. We sat on the floor for a long time stringing bead after bead and then emptying the lace, which sounded great on my son’s hardwood floors – lolMy daughter-in-law sent me a video of my grandson going on a walk through the house dragging his string of beads behind him noisily on those hardwood floors!! Bonus use!! (I was banned from getting a popping popcorn vacuum cleaner for him to push – hahaha)I think these beads will last for generations, they are really well made. All in all it turned out to be a great gift he truly loved and grandma snuck in way for it to be educational too. (They weren’t all that too noisy! Just right!!)

Great To Teach Many skills
This can be used to teach many skills such as color recognition, sort by color or shape, teaching patterns, fine motor skills of threading and creating an abacus for counting.

Amazing for fine motor skills.
This set is awesome for working on fine motor skills. I have a disabled toddler, and these colorful, different-shaped blocks really keep his attention for at least a good 20 minutes before he wants to just start chucking them all over the room. The holes are big enough for chubby little fingers to semi-easily string them. My only complaint is that they don’t come with a good way to organize them or a closed container to store them in, so ours just go in a Ziplock bag. Other than that, they are an awesome toy!!
