Excellent product
I like everything about it. Extra queens, latch to keep it from accidently coming open and snug fit storage for pieces. Pieces are hand carved and easy to recognise. The magnets could be a little stronger, but it’s a tricky balance because if they were too strong it would be difficult to move the pieces. It’s a great buy for the price and I definitely reccomend it.

If you’re looking for a nice travel chess set. . . This is a really nice option. Granted, there are much smaller and more compact options, but I really like the size of this one. Though it shows that this is a 12X12” board. . . it’s really more like 11.75X11.75”.It comes in a nice cardboard box. You will probably want to keep the box to store it.The pieces are nicely “wedged” in foam on the inside, so there is no risk of them falling out.The magnets are not all that strong. Having said that, I haven’t had any issues with the pieces moving around while traveling.The finish is very smooth and looks great for a travel chess set at this price point. It fits together perfectly when it’s closed as well.The only thing that would make this set even better. . . is if they also included magnetic checker pieces. But if that’s something you’re interested in, you can purchase the pieces separately and use them on this board.

Classy and functional.
I “needed” a magnetic chess set and chose this after checking out various options and their reviews. I also wanted something not too small for adult fingers. I was impressed with the packaging being rather classy as it made it a pleasure to receive and unbox the set. The pieces stay put well for the most part – a few slid a little upon heavy tilting. The bottom felt pads are good to have though not well centered on the bottoms. The magnets are efficient. A few are reversed and I don’t know if that’s good or bad. With a thicker steel plate it probably wouldn’t matter. … The board is nicely made and hinges nicely. The pieces fit snugly in their pockets – a bit too much so in my opinion. There is an extra Queen for each side. I wish the metal plates extended closer to the middle as the pieces don’t want to sit in the middle of their squares there. (If you place a piece between ranks 4 & 5, there’s no magnetic attraction) I dug out a bit of leftover stuff found in the Rook’s tops. … For the price, though, it’s still a nice little set to be proud of! Quite a deal, actually! I personally would prefer a slightly yellower wood tone for the light pieces, but that’s just my taste

Not as Described
I have no idea why there are so many positive reviews. It did not come with the extra queens. Also, the magnets are WAY too strong. Bump even slightly and the pieces fall over and connect together. And if you want to take the board with you to another location, you put them in their slots behind the board, which hold to the pieces too intensely and take ages and ages to pry from the back of the board. Would not recommend.

Small gift that eased the crowd
This chess kit is awesome. It was much better than I expected and I am very pleased with the purchase. It got the whole family to sit around and play chess again. The pieces shift a little with movement but barely enough to notice. The only things that are a slight downer is that there is not much space on the edges of the board for the magnets to hold the pieces you’ve taken from the other player. Second suggestion is it would be nice if there was some type of mechanism to lock the game into the open position. Minor things. I’d buy it again.

Great home and travel chess set!
My son and I use this set on a regular basis. I love that each piece has its place in the foam setting. It makes for an easy traveling board. The magnetic pieces also help keep the game going even when my tornado a five year old rolls by while we’re playing. Great set for the whole family!

Fixed through customer support
When folded open the squares did not line up, stuck out like a sore thumb. Also on one of the bishops the sticker was coming loose right out of the box.After contacting customer service I have been sent a replacement board. Im glad they addressed the issue, all in all a great chess set.

You get what you paid for
The quality of this is… bad. The squares are not square, of different sizes. The paddings under pieces are glued misaligned. The pawns look different in shape… I wanted to return it but missed the return window. But, if you think about it, this is what you get when you didn’t want to spend the $50.

Really great chess set!
I really like this chess set. The board appears to be made well, and it’s really nice having the pieces store inside of the board itself. Everything appears to be made of wood, (except for the foam inside the board), and everything seems to be of high quality. There is a little crevice down the middle, but I guess that’s the price you pay for a having a board that folds up. I don’t think there’s a way to avoid having that crevice on a board that folds up. Overall, a really great chess set.

Easy overlook by non chess people.
The only thing that needs changed is the design of the Queen. Looks too similar to the Bishop. Even for a seasoned player like me, it was easy to make a wrong play. Other than that, set is exactly as described in all areas!

Great travel set! Thin packaging, though.
This chess set was absolutely perfect! Nothing was damaged, the pieces were in great condition, and the magnets were centered. In my opinion, the medium size makes it comfortable to play anywhere and any time. The only issue would be that it comes in a very thin cardboard box that doesn’t offer much protection. You would have to make—or put it in—a more protected “case” if you’re taking it for traveling. And the white squares aren’t the same color (some of them are darker to where it looks cream, or not blended correctly) but that didn’t bother me at all (though I’m sure it’ll bother others) which is why I’m still rating this five stars. Other than that, great purchase!

bottom pads fall off
so its pretty good quality except since the magnets pull down on the felt pads as you use the pieces they slowly fall off but that took like a month for it to happen with moderate use still a quality board and the fix is just some super glue for the pieces.

Looks nice – Could use a sleeve
Taking a summer road-trip this year and I wanted a travel chess-set for the kids, this one fits the bill perfectly. It’s a nice enough that it doesn’t feel like a cheap toy, but it’s also not so fancy that I wouldn’t want to let the kids use it. The magnets hold the pieces in place while driving and the storage compartment has a nice foam insert with cutouts for each piece. Of course the board then folds over and locks for storage, and once it’s closed it fits just fine under the seat. I just wish it came with a cloth bag or sleeve because I can see the board getting scratched without it. For now we’ll use the cardboard box it came in, let’s see how long that lasts.

Small, polished, quality.
Very nice! Nothing was wrong with the board and the pieces were just the right weight. The inside padding for the pieces is tight, so the felt can come off on the pieces. But with time (And mild glue on the piece) they slide out.

My dad liked it.
I bought this as a subtle gift for my father, and he loved it! I had a issue with some of the soft plastic inside rubbing off on the pieces and getting it sticky One of the white rooks is a little wonky, but hey it adds character?Its not a deal breaker for me, and I still think its a very nice set.

This chest board is really fun. i wanted to gift my 10 year old child a chest board that has somewhat of an authentic wooden feel and smell to it. As opposed to those gargabe plastic $5 sets. This set really filled that void. The pieces get tucked away inside, and it is all nicely contained. The smell has a semi cedar smell. I like it, daughter likes it. So it is a winwin! PErfect balance. I recommend.

Terrible quality
The entire board was crooked and the squares were off center. Tried to email and call the company and the email was invalid and the telephone number was not a working number. Thankfully, I was able to return it through SAH Creatives. Would not recommend.
