Very disappointed!
Item arrived on time and was beautifully crafted. Then after about 8 weeks, I noticed it was on the ground. I saw the screw on the top that holds it up to hook on a feeder holder had come out. I tried putting it back in, but seemed like wood has rotted at the top. It was out of my return window, so could not exchange or send back. I didn’t mind paying the $22, I originally thought it was worth it for a nice wooden feeder. But should certainly have lasted longer than 2 months. Plus the squirrels easily opened the grate and took the suet cakes out unless I used a zip tie to close it, which was a pain to deal with every time I needed to refill. Was certainly a nice looking feeder, but needed it to be sturdier, more functional and squirrel resistant too. Very disappointed !

Nice suet hanger.
I like that it has the larger suet cage and the wooden part to help birds balance. The hanger is just an eye hook, so I’ll need to attach a bigger hanger or chain.

Utter garbage
The suet cage does not close well–the latch barely holds. The suet drops out not just from squirrels but even when birds are feeding–just the vibration is enough to open the cage. Don’t waste your money.

No suction is needed for a bird feeder
It’s ok, but probably too small for the larger woodpeckers. Even the smaller Downey woodpecker tends to hang on the wire rather than use the perch.

Birds love it!
Bird feeder is very nice and the birds eat easily from it. It is necessary to add a clip on the door to keep it closed. Not sure as to what is meant by suction power.

Very thin, cheap, and poor quality
Product arrived cracked down the middle. This is not surprising, given that the wood is about .25″ thick… This is not a good product. You wouldn’t buy it if you saw it in a green house. The price is too high, and the product is not a good build.

My birds love it!
My birds love it. Now to just keep those smart pesky squirrels away (they can’t open it but dang it they reach in and steal the suet still)

Up three weeks and no woodpeckers yet.
Our sparrows are eating from this, but no one else.We have three families of woodpeckers and haven’t seen any of them use this. They are all over the old green wire mesh suet holders, so it isn’t the food – it’s the container. We’re going to leave it up going into the cold weather and I will changed this review if they start using it. I am not very hopeful that that will happen.

Functional and pretty
I would have given it 5 stars for sturdy if it had a better hanging feature but otherwise an attractive, functional feeder.

Size in photo is deceitful
I assumed based on the photo that this would hold a large suet. It is made for a small one. The photo is very deceitful as it has a pileated woodpecker on it , and this item is about the size of a pileated, not much larger as it shows. It arrived damaged in multiple spots with half of the top falling off, but the box was in pristine condition. Very disappointed

Product design
Hanging loop on top is very small. Unable to hang on Sheppard’s hook. You will need to purchase additional items to hang.

Cute
This is a well made small suet feeder with perch. I wish it came with a chain. But much cooler then the cage feeders.

Your all right
I love the feeder and I have had one before similar, but everyone was right, the circle for the hook at the top comes out. The reason is rain and the weather soaking the wood. The gap in the wood is where the water gets in and then you have no circular hole to put a hook in to hang up. They should have used a bent piece of metal over the top that had the little circle that you could put a hook of your own on it to use. That is what reviews are for as to keeping the buyer from making a wise decision. I accept that I bought it knowing this could still be the case. They really don’t last that long anyway. But for now I’m going to use glue on it to hold the circle on. I swap off each time so in between it will allow me to see what is going on with the feeder to be able to fend off just having a piece of wood. There is a feeder that is green, red, different colors that is metal feeder I swap off with. So if you see it, comes in various colors, can hold two. It has a nice hanger on top so you don’t even need to worry about a hook. Many Sellers don’t include a hook. I highly recommend the metal colored one.

Convenient to use
I like the sturdiness of the feeder. The covering on top helps keep rain off. I bought it to feed the woodpecker families I have in the woods behind my house. However, I haven’t seen a woodpecker sit on the bar for perching to feed. They cling to the sides. Other smaller birds do perch on the bar.

it just comes right open
I put a clip on it, but the squirrels can just open it and take the suet, even if they didn’t do that it comes open so easily that the suet can fall out.I like the way it looks though so I just split my suet up into 6 pieces and put a piece out every day :/By the evening a squirrel has a golden nugget. Also, the pileated woodpecker dwarfs this thing. If I redesigned this, I’d make it slightly longer and the opening at the top with an extra latch

Attractive and functional
The main reason I bought this was because so many other suet holders didn’t have a perch. Whether or not it is more comfortable for the birds I don’t know, but it just seemed like if they could sit on the perch, it would be more comfortable for them to eat instead of hanging on the wire cage. I like it very much. I’m glad I purchased it and I hope the birds are enjoying it too.

Photo Misleads Size
The media could not be loaded.
Deceiving size in photo, as the actual feeder is much smaller. A Pileated woodpecker, with which it is shown, would actually dwarf this feeder, as does the Northern flicker that struggles to use it. I do like the perch on one side that helps some birds.

I hung it today and am pleased. I will know more after I use it a month or so.
The feeder seems sturdy. It looks like cedar but there are white sections on it, like a different kind of wood. I hope it will resist the weather.

Attractive suet feeder; sturdy with a roof!
Backyard woodpeckers love to come and feed on the suet in this well built feeder!

Squirrels had figured out how to take out the suet pretty quickly.
First thing I noticed the hook to suspend the feeder was very flimsy. Looked similar to a hook you would hang a Christmas ornament from. I swapped that out for something stronger. The clasp for holding the suet in place which I assume made this squirrel proof was breached pretty quickly. If I continue to use it going to have to wire the cage shut to make it (hopefully) more secure from the squirrels.

Really cute, but could be made better wouldn’t pay over 20$, side held together with glue and came apart so had to staple together lol but the birds don’t mind 😉

LOVE THAT THE OPENING ARE LARGER FOR MY PILATED WOODPECKERS
Have been looking for a Suet Cage that had larger openings for my PILATED WOODPECKERS.They do not like the smaller types since it is difficult for them to feed via the smaller openings.I will have to say that due to the larger cage openings to the Suet, the squirrels will take advantage of course. I will purchase another.

Looks great, but latch is not secure
I really love the look and price of this feeder, but the latch is easily opened and the squirrels steal the entire suet first thing in the morning. I need to secure it with a zip tie.

Easy loading with gated door.
Great feeder, Birds like it. Tail board is too short for larger birds like Pileated Woodpecker. They do make do anyway.

Absolutely not squirrel proof but I found a solution
The squirrels had it open and the suet stolen in minutes. But adding my own d-ring to the bottom of the cage is acting as a good lock.

Comes without a hook on top so takes extra time to put in use
Didn’t like no hook and it arrived with 2 cracks in the wood. Too much money for what it is

Wire Frames Are Too Large
The space in the wire frames for the suet is too large…very easy access for the squirrels and the raccoons. Never had this problem with the smaller wire frame suet feeders.

Adequate for the price with a major flaw
Update: Changing to 1 star because the feeder completely fell apart after 6 weeks. It’s held together by glue, small staples and a prayer. It’s very attractive and the birds as large as hairy woodpeckers used it without a problem, but we’ve had some strong wind and rain lately and it didn’t hold up. This is meant to be outside so more consideration should be made in the construction. We purchased a metal more birds 4 suet cage buffet as a replacement. The new feeder is built like a tank. This feeder accommodates hairy woodpeckers and smaller species comfortably. Other reviews say the door closure is loose and needs reinforcement. Ours closed snuggly so that isn’t our issue. The problem we had is the peaked roof is made of 2 joined pieces. Then the small hook eye is screwed into the seam which makes it extremely weak. We had to jury rig it. It’s constructed with very thin pieces of wood stapled together. We don’t expect it to last more than a season or 2. For the price it meets expectations. We will replace with a metal 4 suet cage feeder since this has served its purpose and attracted birds to our view.

Looks great and works well!
I really like this suet holder, however the squirrels have been able to open it and steal the suet. I put a rubberized cable through the door to keep it closed. The birds love the perch.

Great suet feeder
The suet feeder is one of the best I have seen. It is made really nicely. It has a small roof that protects the suet from getting wet in the rain, unless of course the wind is blowing. It has a perch for birds to sit and rest while they are eating. It also has a tail support for birds like woodpeckers that need that to keep upright while they are eating which gives them a better view to look out for danger etc.

Not impressed
This is a cute suet block holder. It seems well made. There are two things I don’t like. The piece at the bottom for the bird to rest his tail feathers needs to be longer. I bought it for this reason. The brown thrashers and woodpeckers still have problems once they light on the perch. Also, the catch for the suet holder does not latch tight. To keep ours closed we have to use a cable tie. Pretty holder but I’m not impressed and wouldn’t buy again. I should have bought the one I saw at the wild bird store on vacation.

Woodpeckers and Flickers love this feeder
Great feeder. My only suggestion would be to add a second perch on the back side.

Well made but not big enough for this woodpecker!
This duet feeder is made pretty good, cafe for the suet could be stronger, quite flimsy. My issue is it says it’s made for the Pileated Woodpecker. This is a very large woodpecker, and if made for it would have to be twice it’s size!It will be ok for smaller woodpeckers but not the one it’s supposedly designed for. I’m disappointed.!Picture is Very Very Deceptive!!! That woodpecker that us pictured is 18-20 inches, big woodpecker, so I thought it would be quite large! NOT‼️‼️ This is not for the big woodpeckers‼️‼️

It’s lovely! Well-made!
This is the nicest suet feeder I have ever had! It is beautifully crafted of cedar. I had actually bought it for a White Elephant gift exchange, supposed to spend $15-$20. So this is about that price. But I had an extra gift so I kept it. We were treated to lovely birds in this bitterly cold Ohio winter–blue jays, two kinds of woodpeckers, nuthatches, cardinals, tufted titmouse, and starlings, alas.

Birds like it
It gives the birds a perch. The only issue is that the door doesn’t close securely.
