some imperfections but great overall
The media could not be loaded.
This toy is cute and creepy at the same time. I dont know theres just something about the dolls that look a little voodoo to me. Buuut its a great toy. There are some imperfections like the doorbell sounds arent that loud, one lock is reaaally hard to turn with the key, and you can only put the dolls in the house standing up, the door wont close if theyre laying down. Lastly, the inscriptions on the keys with key numbers are very faint and barely noticeable for a toddle unless you really point it out to them. I might just paint the keys the colors of their doors. I still rate it 4 stars though because its pretty sturdy and the key chain is long enough to actually reach the locks without any struggle. That was my biggest thing because alot of toys dont really give enough room of a keychain. Anyways i would recommend

First I’d like to list the things I love about this cute …
First I’d like to list the things I love about this cute house. It is made of wood and has the perfect sized handle that Is sturdy. There are four different doors to open, each numbered. There are four different keys which are each numbered to coordinate to the door it opens. Which is more engaging and educational. But a couple are odd shapes for keys. They work just fine. I don’t think it would bother kids playing with it. But the keys don’t go all the way in the keyhole. The tip just barely fits then you turn and they open. Which is why they have odd shapes. The four people that come with it are made of wood, cloth and yarn. One doll is stored inside each door. Each door opens to its own space. The house is section into four triangular spaces, it is not one open space inside. I understand that they did it to make it feel like each doll has its own home. But when divided it makes the individual spaces pretty tiny. Enough room for one or two dolls but not much else. My own personal wish is that it were open space inside because my son would love to put a tractor in there to carry around. Or you could fit a small stuffed animal if the space were open. I love that the keys are attached to the house with a strap so they can’t get lost. I wish it could be a couple inches longer. But I understand the fear of it possibly strangling a child if it was any longer. At the length that it is I don’t think that’s a possibility. Each door has its own doorbell which are each a different shape and a different ring for each house. You will need to add batteries on the bottom of house for them to work. Also the doorbells are not loud at all. So they kids can ring them all they want without it getting annoying for parents. My two year son loves going with me to the post office and using the key to open our mailbox. So I thought he would love using the keys and carrying it around with his things in it. Being two he doesn’t really get how to match the numbers on the keys to the numbers on the doors to figure out which key belongs to which door yet. I’ve tried to show him but he doesn’t understand what I’m trying to show him yet. He’s also confused with the fact that the keys don’t go all the way into the keyholes. The tip of the key just barely fits. Which stills works just fine but if they let go before turning the key, it will fall out. But my son was use to the key going all the way in before turning for it to work, so there was some confusion at first. If I sit and hand him a key and turn the house to coordinating door he can do the rest on his own. But if I walk away so does he. I think within the next six months he will enjoy it a lot more.

My grandaughter loves this!
My grandbaby is 18 months and her attention span is not very long. I got this house on a lightening deal for $11.00. The house is sturdy, made of wood and very colorful. There are keys on a fabric key chain that fits every little door. I tied the keys up on top because the small dexterity and shape of the keys and keyholes would just be too frustrating for her age. The doors can stay unlocked once opened. There are four little wooden dolls. They are made very well and fot her toddler hands perfectly. She walks around hugging the dolls and carrying the house. Each door on the house has a little triangle room that can fit a few of the dolls or other items. She has tiny cats she loves and puts them in the rooms. There are also little doorbells next to each door. She loves to push them. They dont make noise but grandma is expected to say ding dong everytime she presses them 🤣

My granddaughter enjoys this toy
My granddaughter received this for a Christmas gift. She is just now turning 2, so she was quite young when she received it. I’m sure she will enjoy playing with it more as she matures and can manipulate the four keys. Currently, she gets a big kick out of ringing each doorbell. I think that the suggested age of 3 and up could be lowered to 2 and up, but we were perhaps a bit early.

Disappointed with poor quality
I adore the concept. My 2 year old has been playing with it for 30 min since we opened it for his 5 year old sister’s birthday present. His sister has been playing with the dolls since we opened it. To M&D’s credit, the dolls are fantastic. The doorbells work decently most of the time and aren’t super loud. They’re kind of tinny. That’s about all I can say positive. The whole house appears to be hot glued together like a toddler with a glue gun. There’s hot glue strings everywhere. The wood is not sanded smooth in many places and has chips/splinters. (Hello, safety hazard? Now I have to sand a brand new toy?!) The doors don’t really close nicely and look like they’re going to break. The locks are plastic and basically one toddler slam from snapping off. Even the bright and colorful decal is already peeling off of the wood at the bottom! We opened this gift about 10 min ago. There’s no excuse for this.My return windows has closed and my kids love the toy, otherwise I WOULD absolutely return it. I’m considering buying another one for WHEN (not if) this toy shatters into a million pieces.Really the idea is great and the cost is incredibly reasonable right now. But I wouldn’t pay more than 25 for this toy. I’m very disappointed. Melissa and Doug usually means quality that will last several kids, thus justifying the high price. This is not up to their usual standards and I’m not sure it’ll last more than a month or two. I’d have gladly paid more for a better product.

I was nervous to order because of the reviews about the good features being replaced by silver plastic. I was so pleased when I opened the box to find the gold. My child loves it so much!

Cute little play house
My grandchildren had fun playing with this house. The little play people are an added bonus. Be sure to have batteries on hand so the doorbells will work. The kids had fun using the keys to open the door but they did need assistance because the numbers on the keys that match with the doors are hard to read. I would have preferred the keys to be color coded for the littler children to play with. The grands are using their imaginations and enjoying this new toy.

Fantastic multifunctional toy that promotes open-ended play.
My 2.5yo son loves this Melissa and Doug Take-A-Long Dollhouse. He loves ringing our front doorbell and he has a toy car where the trunk can be opened with a key that just fixates him, so when I found this toy I was really excited and hopeful that he’d enjoy it.This has quickly become a favorite go to toy. There is one designated key for each of the four doors and they must be placed into the lock facing the proper direction, each key is numbered 1 through 4 matching the corresponding door. Each doorbell has a different shape and sound and the volume is really only loud enough be heard if your right next to the Dollhouse, ie. the one playing with the toy. Which is so nice in comparison to all the large pushbutton, light up, obnoxiously loud toys on market. There are four wooden/cloth dolls that can be placed behind each door or in whatever combination you like.It was difficult for him at first, but once I showed him how to match the number on the key with the number the door he caught right on. He also had bit of trouble realizing the key needed to be facing the proper direction. After the first few attempts with a bit of help he picked right up on it. This toy has made him focus on his finger dexterity and number recognition. Which he picked up on almost instantly, quicker than the months of nursery rhyme number songs. (Which were great for number memorization, but not so much for recognition). This is also a great tool to teach object permanence and so much other open-ended play, ie. When grown-ups leave they come back or don’t talk strangers, or always say who’s there before answering the front door. He also hides his mini superheroes in the Dollhouse or whatever else wants to lock away at that moment. ( A word of advice, if you can’t seem find your car keys, check the dollhouse).I would definitely recommend this toy for any child who has an interest in how things work. My 4yo tried the toy few times, but gets bored with it easily, so it is not for every child.

really cute
This toy is Melissa and Doug, I am a fan of their toys they are durable, sturdy and pretty gosh darn cute. This toy has all the Melissa and Doug quality I expected. I bought this for my child who loves keys, he showed interest in it at a store where toys are displayed to try. After I bought it he was excited and played with it a day or 2 but has lost all interest ( that is why the 4 rather than 5 stars) I love the different door bell sounds, and the family inside are very sweet, the keys are numbered and fit their own door, they are a little complicated to get in the lock. I would suggest this for age over 3 or 4 or for a child who has really good fine motor skills ( this toy will develop those skills, if your child can stay interested long enough and not get frustrated and give up)

Cute idea but could use some modifications
This is a really cute toy but it has some kinks. First, the keys do not fit very deep into the keyholes at all and for little hands this becomes quite frustrating because they fall right out if they need to adjust their hold on the key. 2nd, the attached strap on the key ring is a great idea so they do not get lost, however, it is just long enough to barely reach the keyholes and gets in the way when playing. This also makes it even more difficult to adjust her hands to turn the the key. It would have been great if it were attached with velcro so it could easily be taken off and put back on when finished. I think I will cut it and attach a small piece of velcro myself because time after time this feature is pretty annoying. (Sorry Melissa & Doug) The good thing about this little house is that the keys are numbered to correspond with the numbers on the doors so kids can quickly identify it’s match and proceed to open it. The dolls are very cute and simple and the legs and arms can bend slightly. I love the idea of this house; my daughter has just recently become very interested in helping to open the car door and front door to the house so I thought this would be perfect. She likes it enough that I would hate to return it and I am hopeful that after adjusting the strap it will be easier to play with. These are the complications I have run into with a 3-year-old, older children may not find these things as much of a nuisance. Oh, one more thing…if you are imagining the house completely open and free to insert other small toys, as I was, it is not. When you open the doors there are 4 separate “rooms” that are v-shaped/triangular, so only one or two figures will fit at once. This could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on how you look at it. I usually love everything in the Melissa & Doug toy line but I’m not sure I would recommend this one as is, at least not without giving fair warning to the issues described above.

Good Value
My 20 month old granddaughter absolutely loves this toy. She rings all the doorbells and giggles as she puts things inside. She uses the play family with other toys as well. She isn’t ready to use the keys right now , which makes this a toy she can play with for a few years! Great value

Fun toy. Missed opportunity!
I ordered this for my daughter’s 3rd birthday. She received many gifts but this one she has been playing with just about every day. There are a few things that really bug me about it, however. One, the toy comes with four dolls, 2 white girls with blonde hair and 2 white boys w/brown bowl haircuts. No diversity whatsoever. What a misssed opportunity to have multiethnic dolls all living together in a little 4 house community! Obviously, children and their families come in many shades and ethnicities so this was really a disappointment. I almost did not order the toy for this reason. Ultimately, I decided she would probably enjoy putting the keys in the locks and ringing the doorbells, and she does. Unfortunately, she is unable to unlock the doors herself yet because the keys and locks are so small. I am sure she will grow into this over the next several months — hopefully the toy will hold up that long. It would definitely be helpful if house, locks and keys were larger. It would have been worth it to pay a bit more for a toy that is more user friendly with larger pieces for toddler and preschool fingers. Hopefully the toymaker will rethink this product and come out with an improvement on a great idea.

My son is scared of the dolls
It’s a nice house but the locks are kind of hard even for an adult if you keep the tag on, and my son was scared of the little dolls. They could have been more attractive for kids. Even though I replaced with other characters he doesn’t like the toy anymore. It wasn’t a good purchase for us

Great for busy 2 year old
Cant say enough good things about this little house! my very busy 2 yo saw this at a friends house 3 months ago (at 21 mo) and it kept him super busy. The people match the door, each key is different, and each door is different . the keys are small but stay attached to the roof. my friend told me to get this for the longest time but finally did. Definitely worth it for your busy toddler. you may need to help them with the keys but they’ll learn 😁update: 4 months later and we keep this toy in rotation. Still one of his favorites. I didnt think he would care about the little people but he loves taking them in and out of the house.

Very cute but very difficult for children to unlock
“Santa” got this in hopes of entertaining our 2 year old daughter who loves getting into things. The house is cute, the dolls are cute (their legs seem to handle my daughter bending them just fine so far), and the part that holds the key is long enough to reach the locks. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 is because it’s very difficult for the kids to unlock it. My 5 year old has trouble which is fine because it makes him think of which angle to turn the key, but my 2 year old cam not figure it at all. I personally don’t like that the key has such weird shapes. The number on the keys are hard to see for my 2 year old, wish it was bigger or colored. Or would be nice if perhaps the keys were color coded ro match each door as well? My 2 year gets frustrated sp we end up having to leave the doors unlocked for her. Other than that it is a very cute toy just be aware it’s rather dificult for toddlers. So if you are ok with them growing into using the keys then this will work great 🙂

Kids love doors and doorbells
Fun learning toy for colors, numbers, manipulatives, imaginary play. The keys are frustrating because the engraved numbers are hard to see and the strap is too short. Two or three more inches, please! Also, no one writes a number four like that. A regular number four would be a nice nod to little early learners.

My 4 year old loves it
We bought this toy on sahcreatives after seeing it in a boutique toy store for about $10 more. My son loves putting things into compartments and using keys, so I was very excited to get this for him. He also really likes dollhouses, but he is at the age where he is conscious that they are “for girls” so this is a great way for him to have a gender neutral similar kind of toy. However, I was kind of hoping that there would be more space inside of the the little house, even though the description did not indicate that to be so. Behind each door is a little compartment, none of which are connected to each other. My son played with it as soon as it arrived at the door, and after about a 1/2 hour declared it his “favorite toy, even though it’s a baby toy.” I assured him it’s not, and he didn’t seem to have a second thought about it. In fact, he is at exactly the right age to be able to play with it without getting frustrated. The keys are little and a bit frustrating at first. But once he figured out how to use them, he does so quickly and he moves all the dolls around to visit each other in their house in different countries for sleep overs. We take the key ring off the “leash” so he can use them more easily. Note: we quickly learned that a knife opens the locks if your child happens to be tempted to put the key through the little hole in door and lock them in.A unique, engaging, imaginative toy!

Sticker keys and free advertising
Cute idea but we found the keys and doors quite sticky and difficult for a nearly three year old to use. What irritates me the most was that all the printed information (see photo) is permanent on the roof. Seeing it when it arrived I assumed that was just a cardboard filler under the shrink wrap. Nope. It’s permanent and very nicely hidden in the photos on sahcreatives. Very tacky and deceptive.

Perfect Learning Toy
We love this little house. The different colored doors and dolls helps with early color matching and learning. Once baby is older, the keys and numbers are great for learning numbers, matching, and the fine motor skills needed to insert and turn the key. The 4 different doorbell sounds are an added bonus. This is one of our most favorite learning toys for the toddler and preschool years.

An excellent first “doll house.”
Super cute. I got this for my 6 year old niece and she was quite pleased. She (and my 3 and 5 year old plus her 7 year old sister) played with this for over an hour. I love that the doors lock and each one has its own key. I REALLY love that the keys are attached to the house so they won’t be easily lost. It seems very sturdy and I have no doubt it will last for years. It has been two months since I gave it to her and she still enjoys it. The doorbells are her favorite part, each one has its own sound and she can tell you “who’s Bell has been ringing” without looking. All in all, I am very pleased with the purchase and am probably going to purchase another one for another niece. The only downfall is the small compartment space behind each door makes it impossible for her to add a chair or bed for her dollies. Still, a great toy.

Nice for hand coordination
This is a cool toy for a 2year old. My child like it and loves the door bells of course. Only thing the numbers on the keys are small so I wrote on a piece of paper with a black marker and taped across the key so that my baby didn’t have a problem matching the key with the door number. It takes a while for them to learn how to unlock the doors with turning the right way. After consistently assisting my baby was able to do each door by herself in less then a week. Nice learning toy!

Might be difficult for children to get keys to reach certain locks…
Melissa & Doug make really good natural toys. I like this toy, BUT it seems like it’s only good in concept quite frankly. It’s a sturdy toy that will stand up to heavy play; no question. The price for this toy is a bit high for a toy of this nature, but being as how it is made with wood and metal and natural materials I can see why there is a markup. This isn’t a mass-produced plastic toy that doesn’t last. This will be around a long time. This is a great gift because it is EXACTLY what my 3-year old wanted. My major issue I have, and the reason I rated it 3/5, is that the ribbon that holds all of the keys is a very short length. My thought is that it’s short because it is to prevent a possible choking hazard (by having a lot of slack that could wrap around a Childs neck). I actually like that safety is part of the design.HOWEVER, if the ribbon gets a little twisted or isn’t otherwise exactly turned the right way, the keys attached will not reach their intended numbered slots. This causes a lot of frustration, which I guess could be more problem solving, but I would think it would be appropriate to have 1-2 inches extra slack to make it easier to use.I recommend it, but keep those things in mind.

I bought this for my grandson’s 2nd birthday as he loves to ring the doorbell. I knew he would love it but after he opened it at his party , he wouldn’t play with any of the other new toys he got. It is high quality , educational and just plain fun! Each side has a different doorbell with a different doorbell sound. It has already provided hours of fun for him. Purchase for autistic boy and he loves it
A dear friend of mine recently found out her 2-year-old son was autistic, so for Christmas I researched toys specifically known for helping autistic children and found the doorbell house. While this house is supposed to be for children ages 3 and older, I wouldn’t stray away from it if your child is younger. Her son, at age 2, absolutely adores this toy! The button pushing is so much fun for him and he enjoys the organization of putting the people (and other small toys I included in each door) into the doors and shutting them. He doesn’t understand how to use the keys yet, but he was trying already and it’s obvious he’ll learn sooner rather than later. The keys are attached to the roof and the cord allows plenty of room for someone to use the keys on the doors. Each key has a number which coordinates with the door numbers and each key is just a little different (one is L-shaped, etc.). The inside of each door has plenty of room and her son was able to put two people and 6 individual pieces of candy in one door, so I think it would be easy to hide special prizes for children to find.I highly, highly recommend this toy! Her son played with it for hours on end and cried that night when he had to go to bed and stop playing. She said since he’s received it, it’s all he wants to do and it’s already helping him with coordination (something he was previously struggling with).

This is awesome!
My little one is 2 and loves locks, latches, buckles and such so when I came across this I knew it would be right up her alley! This really is a cool house and I like the door bells too! I read some reviews of them not working but all 4 work and they do 4 different kinds of door bell sounds. The keys reach just fine to all 4 doors, I had no issue opening them. The little dolls are cute too. This will keep her busy and it’s a good hand eye coordination toy! I definitely would recommend!

Peeling but otherwise Happy!
I LOVE this lock house. I give it to the twin toddlers to use when they need some individual decompression time, and it keeps them (individually) occupied for 20-45 min at a time! Their hands and minds are busy which allows their emotional state to come down to a manageable level, or allows me time to get ready to get out the door! LOL.My one complaint is that a decal is peeling somewhat. Not sure if it was initiated by general wear or if my son actually tried to peel it off. But now I have to make sure he doesn’t try to tear off the pretty “paint.” I think this would have worked better handpainted, not with decals.

Great “complex” toy to keep your toddler busy
Our little boss doesn’t have the longest attention span so we’re always on the look out for toys that we can “use” to keep him busy/distract him when the situation arises (e.g. cutting his hair, feeding him, cleaning his runny nose when he’s sick, brushing him, guests are over, etc.). This little dollhouse has lots to offer; you’ve got the (different) key and lock on all sides, a little doll with matching colour outfit inside each locked door, numbers on key and door, and a doorbell next to each door with a different chime. Plus it looks like a little house with a chimney. This keeps him busy alright (well, at least for a decent amount of time). It’s also a bonus that he won’t figure out the locks/keys thing until he’s older so it might prove its use even later on.The quality is the usual Melissa & Doug built. It’s typically mostly wood and metal so it says some durability/style, but it’s just barely so (the cuts/trims and overall craftsmanship are lacking. E.g. metal parts are thin and they didn’t even cut in straight lines for the wooden pieces) so that it’s still affordable. Don’t get me wrong; for the price, what you get is reasonable yet there is room for some finer touches, but it’s completely ok given this is a toy and will take a beating no matter how well it’s made.So anyway, we bought like 4 of these for our kid and friend’s kids. This and the M&D Wooden Latches Board are our go to “misdirection toys”… at least for a little while they were.

Absolutely THE cutest!
I bought this for my 18 month old granddaughter and she LOVES it! Melissa & Doug products are so well made. This little house has four different doors, with four different doorbells (that work – each makes a different sound), four different keys for each door, and four different people that fit inside the doors. The keys are attached to the house by a long ribbon and there is a handle at the top to carry the house around. She has had HOURS of fun playing with this. She walks around saying “people” because we call it “playing with the people”. The keys are a little difficult for her to maneuver, but that is okay because it is a challenge she will grow into. I forsee her playing with this for years to come. Definitely my favorite of the Melissa & Doug toys I have purchased. Highly recommend!

i mean on sahcreatives its like 20$, same 1 up in North Conway at Zebs is 30$!!!!
my daughter has wanted this house with the keys and locks for months, for the price I was totally willing to pay the $20 as a pose to the one up in NH that we were going to get for 10 dollars more! I love Melissa & Doug as well, there is something so vintage about their items and I love it! We always try to order Melissa & Doug when we can because I know the quality is going to always be on POINT! Good toy, go ahead and buy it! The house is very sturdy as well, but I noticed that sometimes the keys are a little hard to get out for a child, like my daughter is 4, so I have to help her a little, but I’d say the age for this toy is def 4 and up any younger, and it would prob be little too complex, and you’ll be helping them put the keys in and out every 5 seconds hahaha trust me! LOL
